A source privy to the club’s registration committee, who sought anonymity, disclosed that Yanga would soon announce the signing of a back-up goalkeeper.
The two goalkeepers warmed the bench for long spells of the recently concluded Premier League season with former coach Hans van der Pluijm preferring Deogratius Munishi between the posts.
“The technical bench proposed the signing of a back-up goalkeeper and our scouts have already suggested some names to the registration committee, so it is just a matter of time before we announce his signing,” he said.
“We want good goalkeepers because we will soon be battling it out in the Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup, so I don’t see the future of Kaseja and Barthez at Yanga,” he said.
“The only way they can still be Yanga players is through playing somewhere else on loan because it’s expensive to terminate their contracts.” “The problem with Kaseja is that our fans don’t trust him anymore especially after conceding some easy goals against his former club (Simba SC).”
Speaking with The Citizen, assistant head coach Boniface Mkwasa, confirmed that Yanga would sign another goalie, but declined to state the future of the two goalkeepers.
“It is true that the technical bench suggested the signing of another goalkeeper. Kaseja and Mustafa still have valid contracts with Yanga, so I can’t say anything about their future,” he said.
Contacted for comment over Yanga plans, Kaseja, who has lost his national team place to Munishi, said he was unfazed by the arrival of any goalkeeper.
“I am not worried at all. I am a good goalkeeper and I still have a valid contract with Yanga, so why should I worry?
“If the club does not want my services, the leadership will come and inform me. I am ready for any eventuality,” he said.
Yanga have yet to hire a new head coach after the departure of Van Pluijm, but the club is already busy bolstering the squad.
